Q: Can I wait until my new system is in to decide
whether or not I want tile or standard finish?
A: No! There are only a select few
waterproof coatings that can accomodate tile or stone.
Most standard systems will decompose. Tile and stone
impact the elevations between the door threshold and
wall to deck transitions. These elevations must be
predetermined early on in respect to the project.

Q: What kind of substrate or plywood works
the best for coating installation?
A: A minimum of 3/4 - 1 1/8 A.C.X. or C.D.X. tongue and groove
with glue and ring shank nailing or screws must be used. Do not use Oriented
Strand Board (O.S.B.) as it is not approved by the I.C.B.O. or manufacturers
of system coatings and may void any warranty on the system.

Q: Is copper or stainless steel the best for
metal flashing applications to accommodate coating?
A: No! Copper will Bettina and the coating material tends to
lose its ability to adhere. Stainless steel must be roughed up
severely to allow for coating to adhere. (24) Gauge primed galvanized
steel is the best as well as manufacturer approved. Any steel less than
24 gauge will most likely fail within an 8-12 year period.

Q: Once a waterproof coating is installed how
often does it need maintenance?
A: Maintenance schedules depend on the system put in place,
traffic use and the manufacturer, however, most systems need some type
of ongoing maintenance and care to get the most out of it for the longest
period of time. For example; a tile or stone application will need a
clear sealer applied to it on a regular basis. Annual application to
keep the grout watertight is the recommendation. A standard coating system
will need a new color coat every (3) to (5) years to maintain the manufacturer
warranty and to prolong the longevity of locking material.
