All deck coatings incorporate metal flashing details
in which specialty coatings are attached to. These flashing
details are the single most important part of any coating
application. If installed incorrectly, the coating will
often leak immediately or fail prematurely years before
industry standard.
DeckTech, Inc. has provided the basic metal flashing
details utilized in most common deck coating applications.
The dimensions may vary on these details depending on
the manufacturer and their system specifications. Always
use heavy gauge steel no less than 26 and our recommended
24, primed, galvanized steel is the best and specified
from most coating manufacturers. We also recommend that
the deck coating applicator always install metal flashings,
this ensures adequate warranty and most deck coating
applicators understand manufacturer requirements versus
Sheet Metal Contractor.
Deck drains are another vital
portion of any deck coating application. All deck coating
manufacturers stipulate drains to be utilized with their
products systems for appropriate warranty.
Other drains
utilized for these specialty coatings are sheet metal
scupper outlets that come in any array of sizes and shapes
depending on size of deck area and architecture. DeckTech,
Inc. continuously recommends that coating applicator
layout drains as they are most qualified to determine
areas of optimum drainage and can ultimately be responsible
for standing water on finished coatings.
